i01: Extension of Lisbon Metro Network – Red Line to Alcântara (304 M€)

Investment overseen by Metropolitano de Lisboa, EPE, to build an extension of the Metropolitano de Lisboa (ML) Red Line to Alcântara. The new Alcântara station should become a new and important transport hub, linking up with suburban rail services. This extension of the line will make a decisive contribution towards significant mobility improvements in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

This investment provides for:

  1. Additional 3.7 km extension of the Lisbon Metro network: 3.3 km in tunnels + 0.4 km on a viaduct;
  2. Construction of 4 new stations;

i) Amoreiras, at the junction of Avenida Conselheiro Fernando de Sousa and Avenida Engenheiro Duarte Pacheco;

ii) Campo de Ourique, at Rua Tomás da Anunciação;

iii) Infante Santo, on the street with the same name;

iv) Alcântara, on a viaduct over Avenida de Ceuta.

The operationalisation of the Lisbon Metro Red Line extension will require the installation of a new signalling system (CBTC – Communications-based train control) between Oriente and São Sebastião, as well as the installation of this signalling system at 41 existing Triple Units.

Implementation

The studies to be developed will be carried out by Metropolitano de Lisboa, E.P.E., in coordination with Área Metropolitana de Lisboa (AML). The investment will be made through an international public tender for the execution of the public works, to be launched by Metropolitano de Lisboa, E.P.E.
