i02: Interface Mission – renewal of the scientific and technological support network and direction towards the manufacturing sector (€186m)
Not with standing the important investments already made in recent years, the diagnosis identifies a need to continue strengthening and empowering the Research and Innovation System and, in particular, encouraging its links with industry to ensure effective technology transfer and the economic and social enhancement of knowledge.
The intention is to extend and enhance the new funding model for interface institutions based on one-third core funding, one-third competitive funding and one-third funding from the market, to ensure stability and predictability that will allow interface entities to focus on their core activities, in particular those of a non-economic nature. This investment will initially provide one-third of the base funding, which will later be financed by tax revenues.
At the same time, investment will be made in enhancing and building the capacity of the technological intermediation institutions network, supporting their accreditation, equipment modernisation, staff technical training and hiring of highly-qualified personnel.
